Southern California Edison (SCE) needed to monitor and control distributed energy resources (DER) at scale as part of its grid modernization goals. Recognizing that a single solution lacked all the necessary capabilities, SCE required a demonstration of its reference architecture before making future investments. This challenge was addressed by vendor Smarter Grid Solutions.

Smarter Grid Solutions implemented its Strata Grid solution, which was integrated with SCE's Enterprise Service Bus and other systems for forecasting and optimization. In a head-to-head comparison with other vendors, Strata Grid successfully demonstrated SCE's reference architecture, proving the viability of a System of Systems approach for its future DERMS rollout.
