The customer, NREL, needed to manage grid hosting capacity to enable high penetrations of distributed energy resources (DER) without impacting network reliability. Their challenge was to investigate the feasibility of achieving penetration levels exceeding 50% at multiple scales. Smarter Grid Solutions provided their solution, Strata Grid, to address this.

Smarter Grid Solutions deployed Strata Grid to monitor and control power flow, first within a smart home and then across a campus with high solar penetration. The solution successfully scaled to coordinate an entire distribution grid. As a result, Smarter Grid Solutions demonstrated the ability to coordinate various DERs to achieve the goal of over 50% penetration levels.
