Infobip localizes 120 words into 11 languages in 48 hours with Smartcat

Infobip, a global communications platform, faced significant challenges integrating localization into its agile software development cycles. Their traditional, waterfall-based localization process, managed by Language Service Providers (LSPs), created bottlenecks, leading to tight deadlines, high minimum fees, and compromised quality. This prevented Infobip from achieving true continuous localization for its products, which contain approximately 95,000 words and require rapid translation into multiple languages. To solve this, Infobip partnered with the vendor Smartcat to explore a new approach.

The solution implemented with vendor Smartcat involved a fundamental restructuring of the localization process based on agile principles. Infobip repositioned their LSP, Beluga Linguistics, as a strategic partner rather than a gatekeeper, enabling direct collaboration and communication between the client, LSP, and freelance translators. This new "triangular setup," facilitated by Smartcat, automated administrative tasks like contracts and payments. The results included dramatically faster time-to-market, the ability to fix language issues instantly, and a process that could publish translation updates to production in just ten minutes. This successful experiment proved that true continuous localization was achievable, benefiting Infobip, the translators, and the LSP.
