Emovis, a provider of toll-based mobility services and road usage charge (RUC) programs, needed a way to enroll electric and hybrid vehicle owners—especially Tesla Model 3 drivers who lacked OBD-II ports—into Utah’s RUC program. Previously, the company relied on OBD devices to track mileage, which made enrollment harder and limited which vehicles could participate.

By integrating Smartcar’s APIs, including Smartcar’s odometer API, Emovis enabled drivers to connect their cars in just a few clicks and share mileage directly from the vehicle’s instrument cluster. Smartcar helped Emovis speed up enrollment, eliminate device installation and manual odometer uploads, and successfully onboard Tesla Model 3s, with plans to expand to all Tesla models soon.
