Case Study: Tullow Oil achieves real-time operations, travel and cost savings, and improved uptime with SMART Technologies' SMART Board-enabled TAP system

A SMART Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Tullow Oil Case Study

The SMART solutions and the TAP system deliver a saving of tens of thousands of dollars in indirect costs. This includes substantial savings in travel time and travel costs.

Tullow Oil is an international oil exploration and production company headquartered in London with major operations in Ghana and Uganda. Managing oil production across wells and reservoirs is technically complex: teams historically worked in silos, field data were collected manually and delayed, and the company needed real-time data handling and cross-disciplinary collaboration to optimize operations and reduce risk.

Tullow implemented a “Technology Assisted Production” (TAP) system that integrates real-time field data with SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Bridgit conferencing to create a collaborative workspace in Accra. The solution enables daily, multidisciplinary decision-making, remote sharing and annotation of live data, reduced offshore travel and associated safety risk, and indirect cost savings of tens of thousands of dollars; it is also helping Tullow spot issues earlier and target incremental uptime gains.
