SAIT Polytechnic’s Automotive Service Technology (AST) program struggled with the logistics of hands‑on instruction: demonstrations could only be seen by a few students at a time, trainees often stood far from complex components, and instructors spent excessive lab time on physical show‑and‑tell, limiting depth and diagnostic training.

Installing a SMART Podium interactive pen display with a computer, projector, multimedia switch and Elmo magnifier let instructors magnify parts, play and annotate videos, switch between applications and pull up online resources on demand. According to instructor Randy Paul, the change sped up prep and delivery, freed time for higher‑level troubleshooting, boosted engagement and raised lab and shop test marks by about 10%, prompting wider campus interest.
