A SMART Technologies Case Study

Taking control of the computer lab

Early County School System in Blakely, Georgia needed to make every graduate computer literate, but its large high school lab — with 24 machines and students of varying ages and skills — made monitoring and managing class time difficult. Teachers like Michael Williams found themselves constantly rearranging furniture and walking the room to see screens, which disrupted instruction and made individualized help and behavior management a challenge.

The district implemented SMART Sync classroom management software and teachers use a wireless tablet PC to view thumbnails of every student screen and roam the lab. With features to lock apps, push files and webpages, take quick polls, and remotely assist or accelerate students, SMART Sync is now in four labs (with plans to expand to seven), giving teachers better control, less time on administrative chores, improved student focus, and more discreet, targeted instruction.
