Students and parents benefit from SMART Board interactive whiteboard

Walnut Hill Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, serves 420 pre-K–5 students and relies on teacher technologist Jeri Kitner to run the computer lab and offer evening computer classes for parents. Kitner’s challenge was reaching a wide range of ages, learning styles and bilingual learners (English-Spanish), while also supporting students with learning disabilities and engaging parents.

The school deployed 15 SMART Board interactive whiteboards with SMART software (supporting 36 languages) to provide a touch-based, inquiry-driven learning environment. The boards boosted engagement for pre-K through fifth grade, helped kinesthetic and special-needs learners, supported bilingual instruction, excited parents, and aligned with districtwide adoption (700+ SMART Boards installed, 1,000 more planned).
