A SMART Technologies Case Study
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville set out to create cutting‑edge, technology‑enhanced classrooms to support and enhance student learning. Facing rising student expectations for classroom technology and a need for a flexible, standardized solution that supported visual instruction, in‑class annotation and easy sharing of materials, the campus sought tools that would improve engagement and communication across disciplines.
UTK standardized on SMART Technologies, deploying SMART Board interactive whiteboards and Sympodium pen displays campus‑wide (163 classrooms, 127 fully equipped) with SMART Notebook software and dedicated practice presentation rooms. Instructors and students use the tools for live annotation, richer media and easily posted lecture materials, resulting in improved student engagement, stronger communication skills, better access to course content, and contributing to the university’s recognition as a technology‑forward institution.
