A SMART Technologies Case Study
The Buckley School, a private K–12 school in Sherman Oaks with about 770 students, over 100 teachers and more than 500 computers (including a one‑to‑one laptop program), needed classroom technology that would integrate seamlessly with its existing environment and genuinely support teachers’ instructional goals. The challenge was finding tools that fit diverse teaching styles, complemented other devices, and would be readily adopted by faculty and students.
Buckley implemented SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Notebook software—starting with six math boards in 2007 and expanding to 25 within a year and 47 in all academic classrooms by the 2009 rollout—while tapping the SMART online community for shared lessons. The rollout improved lesson organization, on‑the‑fly annotation and student interactivity, boosted teacher effectiveness and engagement, and led the school to commit to equipping every classroom and further expand with SMART Podium and response systems.
