A SMART Technologies Case Study
Highland Village Elementary School in Flower Mound, Texas, led by fifth‑grade science teacher Corryann Thompson, needed a way to differentiate instruction so learners of all modalities could fulfil their potential. Teaching roughly 80 students with a range of abilities, Thompson wanted a student‑centered approach that promoted critical thinking and let students demonstrate and teach concepts to their peers.
They implemented the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and SMART Notebook software to deliver visual, auditory and tactile lessons—projecting microscope images, replaying videos, building interactive worksheets and saving lesson banks for review. The technology kept students focused, supported hands‑on, peer‑led learning and drove measurable gains: a 4% increase in science scores after four months and improved TAKS rankings, along with better content retention.
