A SMART Technologies Case Study
Lotus Gardens Primary School in Pretoria, South Africa, serves 1,213 students with just 28 teachers (an average class size of 43) in a low-income community. With limited funds for basic supplies and technology, many pupils were advancing grades without mastering key skills—particularly in mathematics—creating a persistent learning challenge.
A grant enabled the school to install a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, projector and computer, allowing interactive whole-class lessons, shared CD-ROM resources and virtual tools like a protractor. The hands-on technology quickly increased engagement and confidence—previously shy learners now participate actively—helped teachers build digital skills, and left students better prepared to move to the next grade while benefitting the wider community.
