A SMART Technologies Case Study
Longwood University, a historic Virginia institution founded in 1839, wanted to modernize its classrooms to make lectures more interactive and to improve accessibility for faculty and students. The university sought a way for instructors to save and share lecture notes easily and to accommodate instructors with limited mobility who could not move between a desk and a board.
Longwood deployed 37 Sympodium interactive pen displays across its technology-enhanced classrooms, integrating the pen displays with computers and projectors. Faculty—including Dr. Jeffery Peden—now teach from their seats, annotate and save screens for later posting, and incorporate student input in real time, driving greater class participation, slightly improved attendance and better retention.
