A SMART Technologies Case Study
West Exe Technology College, a large specialist Technology College in Exeter with around 1,300 students, wanted to maximise learning through interactive ICT and improve assessment and engagement across subjects. Although SMART Boards and Notebook software were already in every classroom, the college sought a simple way to give teachers instant, individual feedback and involve less-motivated students more effectively.
They piloted SMART Response handset kits integrated with their SMART Boards, using them in quizzes, elections and classroom assessments across Maths, ICT, Humanities and MFL. Teachers found the system easy to use; it boosted student engagement, helped identify topic weaknesses quickly (allowing targeted teaching), and proved especially effective with lower-attaining pupils. Positive teacher feedback and a student survey led to the purchase of ten sets for wider departmental use.
