Case Study: Mexico achieves widespread classroom interactivity and improved student engagement with SMART Technologies' SMART Board and Enciclomedia

A SMART Technologies Case Study

Preview of the Mexico Case Study

Interactive whiteboards have contributed to giving access to technology for the first time to thousands of Mexican children.

SMART Technologies partnered with Mexico’s Secretariat of Public Education and the ILCE to help tackle a large-scale digital divide: with 25.6 million students nationwide and only about 7.3% of the population having access to technology, the country needed a way to bring interactive learning into thousands of classrooms and raise student engagement and attainment. The challenge was to implement technology widely and sustainably across primary and secondary schools while training teachers to use it effectively.

The solution combined SMART Board interactive whiteboards with the Enciclomedia software, supported by teacher professional development. SMART supplied over 51,000 boards and nearly 142,000 schools now use interactive whiteboards as part of Enciclomedia; evaluations show 97% of teachers report higher student motivation and 80% of students say the tools help them understand concepts better. The program has helped narrow technological gaps, create more engaging classrooms and support improved learning outcomes across Mexico’s education system.
