A Smart Parking Case Study
Mornington Peninsula Shire faced growing parking pressure in Rye, a busy tourist area that sees more than 8 million visitors a year. To improve the parking experience, reduce congestion, and test whether real-time data could ease “hunting time” and support retail activity, the Shire selected Smart Parking for a smart parking trial during the busy summer period.
Smart Parking deployed 454 in-ground sensors, SmartSpot access points, and integrated LED signage to show live parking availability across Rye. The trial delivered strong results: drivers saved over 1,700 hours of hunting time, average time to find a park fell from 4 minutes 14 seconds to 1 minute 41 seconds, perceived congestion dropped from 48% to 0%, and the evaluation estimated a potential retail boost of $4,078 per day.
