A Smart Parking Case Study

Smart Parking and ACT Government forge a new partnership to improve city services

ACT Government partnered with Smart Parking to trial a smart city parking solution in the Manuka precinct of Canberra. The challenge was to reduce traffic delays, save drivers time, and improve the overall parking experience across a busy area with limited and varied parking options. The pilot used the SmartPark solution, including the ParkCBR app, vehicle detection sensors, and dynamic signage to show real-time parking availability.

Smart Parking implemented a 12-month proof-of-concept pilot with 460 vehicle detection sensors, five LED intelligent traffic signs, and app-based navigation and payment. The system covered 460 parking bays and guided drivers to available spaces in two main parking areas, while green overhead lighting helped direct motorists within the Furneaux Street car park. The result was a more efficient parking experience that helped reduce congestion, with ACT Government noting Smart Parking’s technology was accurate, reliable, and had an excellent user interface.
