Queenstown Airport, New Zealand’s fourth busiest airport, was facing daily congestion and safety issues in its pick-up and drop-off area as vehicles parked haphazardly and stopped in unsafe places. The airport needed a better way to manage traffic flow and improve the passenger experience, and chose Smart Parking to provide an intelligent parking system.

Smart Parking implemented its SmartPark system, along with SmartSpot Omni gateways and in-ground sensors, to give airport staff real-time visibility into occupancy and overstays. The result was a safer, calmer arrival and departure experience, with better utilisation of a new free short-term parking facility and the ability to quickly identify overstays; Queenstown Airport also highlighted that Smart Parking’s open-platform hardware supports future services and that the system is now used daily to optimise operations.
