Cardiff Council launches SmartPark system and new parking app

Cardiff Council faced rising traffic congestion, air pollution, and daily frustration for commuters as more than 64,000 vehicles entered the city centre each day. To address this, the Council worked with Smart Parking and its SmartPark system to improve parking guidance, give motorists better journey-planning information, and support multi-modal travel options.

Smart Parking implemented Europe’s first city-wide deployment of SmartSensor bay occupancy technology and SmartSpot platform in central Cardiff, alongside the Park Cardiff app and live signage. The solution provided real-time parking availability, Park & Ride promotion, and detailed analytics for Council officers, helping reduce search time for parking and giving Cardiff Council actionable data to manage parking and future smart city services more effectively.
