A GEP SMART Case Study
A Fortune 100 global retailer with over 11,000 stores sought better visibility and control of indirect spend across ~500 stores in Japan after prior eAuction attempts failed due to poor usability, low adoption and lack of strategy—resulting in missed negotiation opportunities and short lead times. The company wanted a partner to define eAuction strategies, execute events with an advanced tool, and train its procurement team to run sourcing events independently.
GEP implemented a four-step approach: strategic design, deployment of GEP SMART’s eAuction capability (customized with local language), process ownership and hands-on training for 25+ sourcing managers. In one year the retailer ran 90+ eAuctions, managed $144M through eAuctions (vs. a $120M target), delivered $33.6M in annual savings (23% on indirect spend), reduced lead times, and enabled the internal team to independently plan and execute eAuctions.
