Preview of the Viñas Familia Gil Case Study

Viñas Familia Gil generates 1,500 MWh a year with SMA Solar Technology

The winery Viñas Familia Gil sought to reduce its energy costs and increase its self-consumption of solar power across its numerous Spanish vineyards. To meet this challenge, the company partnered with vendor SMA Solar Technology, utilizing their photovoltaic inverters and system solutions.

SMA Solar Technology implemented a comprehensive solar energy solution, including Sunny Tripower inverters for on-site generation and Sunny Island battery inverters for off-grid capability and backup power. This allowed Viñas Familia Gil to significantly reduce its energy costs, achieve energy self-sufficiency at key wineries, and even feed surplus power into the grid for additional revenue. One specific system generates approximately 95 MWh annually for self-consumption, while a larger solar plant produces about 1,500 MWh per year.
