Serengeti cuts diesel costs by 85% with SMA Solar Technology

The camp in Serengeti, Tanzania, faced high energy costs and reliance on diesel generators. SMA Solar Technology, via installer Harmonic Systems Ltd., provided a hybrid off-grid solution using its SMA Multicluster System and Sunny Island battery inverters to address this challenge.

The solution implemented by SMA Solar consisted of a 133 kWp solar field and a 900 kWh battery bank. This system drastically reduced diesel dependency, achieving 85% annual diesel savings and a reduction of 168 tons of CO2, while ensuring reliable power in the remote location.
