Johannes Schindele covers 80% of farm energy needs with SMA Solar Technology

Johannes Schindele, a farmer from Germany's Allgäu region, faced rising electricity prices and sought a way to make his livestock farm more self-sufficient. He turned to SMA Solar to generate his own power, with a key requirement being a high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly solution that included SMA inverters.

SMA Solar implemented a comprehensive and modular energy solution that integrated a 160 kWp PV system, an 800 kW biogas plant, and a 228 kWh commercial storage system. The result was that the farm became 80% self-sufficient in its energy needs. The SMA solution, which included intelligent energy management and the SMA Energy App, allowed for optimal monitoring and control, ensured compliance with grid specifications, and even enabled the farm to supply power to major local consumers like the fire department and school.
