Case Study: Edelstahl Rosswag GmbH achieves resource-efficient production of complex metal parts with SLM Solutions Forge-SLM®-Hybrid

The combination of Forging and Selective Laser Melting

Edelstahl Rosswag GmbH, the largest free-shape forge in Southern Germany, wanted to expand beyond traditional forging and strengthen its generative manufacturing and engineering capabilities. Working with SLM Solutions and its SLM®280 TWIN system, the company aimed to complement its decades of materials expertise with additive manufacturing and create a more flexible, in-house process chain for complex metal parts.

SLM Solutions enabled Rosswag to develop the Forge-SLM®-Hybrid process, combining free-shape forging for high-load, near-net-shape base components with selective laser melting for adding complex internal structures. The result was a resource- and cost-efficient manufacturing approach for solid parts with intricate geometries and interior channels, supported by Rosswag’s in-house heat treatment, machining, testing, and quality assurance.
