Bionatic master unpredictable demand during the corona crisis to maintain strong growth

Bionatic, a Bremen-based wholesaler of sustainable foodservice packaging, faced extreme demand volatility during the COVID-19 pandemic — recording over 70% growth, a 200% spike in takeaway demand and supplier lead times of up to four months — which threatened stockouts and overstocking. To manage this, Bionatic used Slimstock’s inventory optimisation solution, Slim4 (including Slim4 Web connected to their Microtech Büro+ ERP), which had been in place since 2016.

Slimstock implemented Slim4’s dashboards, exception-based alerts, scenario simulations and automated parameter changes to give the purchasing team daily, actionable visibility and to-do lists. The result: reduced inventory and process costs, fewer out-of-stocks, and higher inventory turns (overall stock turn rose from 3 to 5 in 18 months, with some SKUs above 20), enabling Bionatic to sustain strong growth, shift sourcing toward Central Europe (from 75% Asia before to 55% now) and maintain availability for its ~18,000 customers.
