Zhaikmunai Saves Drilling Days, Enhances Lithology Identification Using StingBlade Bit

SLB worked with Zhaikmunai LLP in Kazakhstan’s Chinarevskoe field to improve drilling performance in a hard carbonate formation with high chert content. The company needed higher rate of penetration while also producing cuttings large enough for wellsite geologists to better identify lithology types and properties.

SLB recommended a custom StingBlade conical diamond element bit, used with the PowerV vertical drilling RSS and designed through the IDEAS integrated drillbit design platform. The solution drilled the planned interval at 9.05 m/h, a 166% increase in ROP, saved 6 days of drilling time, and reduced costs by about USD 180,000, while also generating larger cuttings that improved formation evaluation and reduced mud replacements.
