Zhaikmunai Increases ROP 57%, Saves 5 Days and USD 210,000, Kazakhstan

Zhaikmunai LLP needed to improve shoe-to-shoe rate of penetration and maintain verticality while reducing well costs and construction time in Kazakhstan’s Chinarevskoe field. SLB addressed this challenge with a vertical drilling RSS solution for the 11 5/8-in section, paired with a customized Smith PDC bit.

SLB deployed PowerV vertical drilling RSS with ONYX PDC cutter technology, enabling the entire section to be drilled in a single run. The result was a 57% increase in ROP, a 5-day reduction in planned 10-day drill time, and about USD 210,000 saved per well, with the first well reaching 22 m/h and setting a new field precedent.
