A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a large operating company in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico that needed critical data to support completion decisions for an injector well. The well had extremely high pressure and mud overbalance, and the target sands varied widely in permeability, making it difficult to obtain real-time permeability measurements, fluid analysis, and representative samples with conventional wireline formation testing tools.
SLB recommended the Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform, configured with a focused radial probe and flow manager to handle the challenging pressure conditions and low flow rates in tight sands. The platform acquired high-quality transient data and low-contamination fluid samples at four stations, including a low-permeability interval below 0.5 mD/cP mobility that had been difficult to sample before, while reporting permeability and fluid analysis in real time to update the 3D reservoir model and guide injectivity decisions.
