Case Study: China National Offshore Oil Corporation achieves single-phase reservoir sampling on command with SLB Symphony testing

Wireless sampling system in Symphony testing string provides real-time feedback to activate samplers in optimal location

CNOOC International worked with SLB to conduct a drillstem test in a deepwater appraisal well in the UK North Atlantic, with the challenge of collecting representative single-phase reservoir fluid samples while improving safety, efficiency, and control in a live-hydrocarbon environment. The company wanted real-time feedback to help manage casing pressure limits and activate sampling at the best downhole location.

SLB deployed a wireless real-time DST solution using the Symphony testing string, including Symphony testing Control, Measure, and Sample technologies with Muzic wireless telemetry. The system provided bidirectional real-time downhole pressure and temperature data and on-command sampler activation, allowing CNOOC International to trigger four samplers during cleanup and four more during main flow, all with live confirmation. The result was successful collection of eight single-phase fluid samples on command and achievement of the test objectives.
