WellWatcher Stim Service Identifies Isolation Failure to Improve Stimulation Results, North Sea

SLB worked with North Sea Operating Company, an offshore operator in the North Sea, to address a challenge in multistage well stimulation: ensuring every stage was isolated and treated as designed so no zones were left unstimulated or understimulated. The operator needed a simple, noninvasive way to verify sleeve actuation and fluid placement during acid fracturing treatments, since conventional monitoring methods were not practical.

SLB implemented the WellWatcher Stim stimulation monitoring service to track the treatment in near real time using a wellhead pressure transducer and proprietary pressure-event analysis. The service detected that fluid had entered a previously treated zone, revealing incomplete isolation and prompting the operator to drop a second actuation ball and repeat the stage. The second attempt achieved better isolation, confirmed the treatment reached the intended zone, and also showed that fluid distribution within the zone was uneven, leading the operator to plan future diversion stimulation with OpenPath Sequence.
