Case Study: Offshore Malaysia Operating Company cuts rig time and prevents water breakthrough with SLB modular intelligent completion

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Offshore Malaysia Operating Company Case Study

Wells produce more than 99% oil with less than 1% water cut in marginal heterogeneous reservoir offshore east Malaysia

SLB worked with an offshore Malaysia operating company facing water encroachment and the need to maximize oil recovery from two wells in marginal, heterogeneous, gas-capped reservoirs offshore east Malaysia. The operator needed horizontal wells that could handle complex zonal behavior while maintaining strong reservoir contact and limiting water and gas breakthrough.

SLB deployed a modular multizone intelligent completion with active zonal control, including flow control valves, zonal isolation packers, permanent pressure and temperature sensors, and valve position feedback. The wells produced more than 99% oil with less than 1% water cut, installation time was cut to one-third of conventional intelligent completions, zero NPT was recorded, and the operator saved about USD 400,000 per well.
