Wellhead Retrieval System Saves USD 600,000 in Single-Run Offshore P&A Operation

Woodside partnered with SLB to address a deepwater plug and abandonment challenge offshore Western Australia, where it needed to recover the wellhead and casing string while saving a trip by leaving the wear bushing in place. The operation required a safe, efficient approach to wellhead recovery in deep water.

SLB used its ProLATCH wellhead retrieval system to retrieve the wellhead and casing string together, simplifying the abandonment process and avoiding the need for future service. The system helped sever the 13 3/8-in and 20-in strings below the mudline, complete the recovery in about 13.5 hours, and deliver an estimated USD 600,000 in savings.
