A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a major oil and gas company in India that needed a large, reliable water source for a 25-year water flood operation in a desert environment. The company had to find and characterize a supply that would not affect community or public water supplies, while also meeting regulatory requirements for development.
SLB combined drilling, aquifer testing, groundwater analysis, GIS databases, and numerical modeling to assess deep saline and shallow freshwater resources and design a defensible well field. The study showed that a deep saline aquifer could meet demand with negligible impact on existing users, reducing the planned well field from 24 wells to just three to five and supporting regulatory approval. This delivered a lower-cost, sustainable water supply that helped secure the future of the oil and gas asset.
