Walkabove VSP Recorded by Using UltraTRAC Tractor Conveyance in Well Deviated 86°

SLB worked with Offshore Angola Operating Company to efficiently record high-quality triaxial vertical seismic profile (VSP) data in both the open-hole and cased-hole sections of a well deviated up to 86° in deepwater Angola. The operator needed to accurately position the well trajectory on surface seismic while reducing the cost, time, and risk of conventional pipe-conveyed logging in a highly deviated well.

SLB used an UltraTRAC all-terrain wireline tractor to convey four VSI versatile seismic imagers in a walkabove VSP configuration, supported by the Q-Borehole integrated borehole seismic system. This delivered accurate time-depth data, a corridor stack, and high-resolution VSP images, enabling a robust well-to-seismic tie, improved fault and stratigraphic interpretation, and lower-risk acquisition with the source shots fired at vertical incidence within a 10 m tolerance radius.
