Viking Bits PDC Bit Increases Meters Drilled 40% and ROP 19% in Western Siberia’s Kogalymskoe Field

SLB worked with Western Siberia’s Kogalymskoe Field Operating Company to address the challenge of drilling three 8½-in s-shaped directional well sections of at least 2,000 m each through an interbedded sand and claystone formation. The operator needed a bit that could maintain high rate of penetration and reduce rig days, since conventional locally produced PDC bits were taking multiple runs and performing below target.

SLB recommended the Viking Bits 8½-in ViM613 matrix-body PDC bit run on a positive displacement motor (PDM). The solution drilled all three sections in single runs, totaling 7,043 m at an average ROP of 42.4 m/h, which increased average meters drilled by 40.7% and ROP by 19.8% versus offset wells, while saving 6 rig days across the three wells.
