Vertical Drilling System Achieves 0.15° Inclination, Minimizing Departure at 5.45 ft in 13,235-ft Well

PetroMiranda faced a difficult vertical drilling challenge in a highly dipped, faulted formation where the target was small and maintaining verticality was critical. SLB provided the PowerV vertical drilling system to help the customer drill the HKF-1 well in the Maracaibo Lake area while minimizing departure and improving well placement.

Using SLB’s PowerV system with automatic inclination hold, PetroMiranda drilled the 13,235-ft wellbore to total depth with a maximum inclination of 0.15° and a maximum displacement of 5.45 ft. The well stayed within the 30-ft target tolerance despite surrounding faults, while the fully rotating design also helped reduce sticking risk and improve hole cleaning.
