Case Study: Al Khafji Joint Operations saves USD 250,000 with SLB Torque-Action Debris Breaker

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Al Khafji Joint Operations (KJO) Case Study

Using Torque-Action Debris Breaker tool instead of coiled tubing operation significantly reduces well intervention time

Al Khafji Joint Operations (KJO) needed to restore full wellbore access after routine pressure and temperature surveys found obstructions from hard calcite scale in 3.5-in tubing at multiple depths. The well had been shut in for five years, and KJO was looking for a more cost-effective alternative to a coiled tubing unit or workover rig. SLB, using the Torque-Action Debris Breaker wellbore cleanup and debris removal tool, provided a mechanical descaling option.

SLB deployed the Torque-Action Debris Breaker on slickline to jar down and apply torque to break up the scale, clearing accumulations to 3,652 ft and confirming tubing integrity. This allowed a memory pressure temperature survey to be run and reduced both inventory and total descaling time. The approach saved KJO an estimated USD 250,000 in well intervention costs.
