USD 60 Million Completion Workover Operation Avoided by Using Wireline Intervention Service

SLB worked with a leading operating company in the ultra-deepwater Gulf of Mexico that could not establish production from a multizone smart well because two adjustable sliding sleeves appeared stuck closed. With workover costs prohibitive at that water depth, the operator needed a way to diagnose the problem and restore production with minimal intervention, using SLB’s ReSOLVE iX instrumented wireline intervention service.

SLB deployed the ReSOLVE iX service with an anchor-linear actuator and smart shifting tool to shift and measure both sleeves downhole without pulling out of hole. The service confirmed one sleeve opened only 53% of its 17-in displacement and detected that it was closing unexpectedly, while the second sleeve also failed to fully open; based on these measurements, the operator cut both sleeves and restored production from two zones, avoiding a USD 60 million completion workover operation.
