UltraTRAC Tractor Conveys FMI Imager in One-Third of the Time Required for Drillpipe Logging

Spyglass Energy Group needed to improve formation evaluation in its horizontal wells in the Mississippian Lime play in Osage County, Oklahoma by adding image logging to its standard petrophysical measurements while keeping equipment and rig time costs under control. SLB addressed the challenge with its FMI fullbore formation imager log, conveyed after the quad-combo suite using the UltraTRAC all-terrain wireline tractor.

Using SLB’s UltraTRAC tractor, FMI image logs were run in five wells and an average of 2,200 ft was tractored per well in the horizontal section. Compared with drillpipe conveyance, which typically took 36 hours, the tractor-conveyed logging cut the time by 24 hours per well, saving Spyglass Energy Group about 5 days of rig time in total while delivering high-quality images and real-time data for better formation evaluation.
