Turbodrill and Hybrid Bit Save PEMEX 12 Days During 548-h Run, Remaining in Hole for 27 Days

PEMEX, working in Mexico’s Mesozoic Chiapas-Tabasco oil province, needed to drill a 12 1/4-in land well section through hard interbedded formations while reducing drilling time and the number of BHA trips. SLB addressed this challenge with a steerable Neyrfor Traditional turbodrill and a Kinetic hybrid drill bit.

SLB combined the turbodrill with the hybrid diamond-impregnated bit to deliver precise trajectory control and durable cutting performance across multiple lithologies. The solution drilled 1,455 m in four runs, cut the section in 54 days instead of 66, saved 12 days, and eliminated the need for a cleanout run before running 95/8-in casing, while maintaining a 1.7 m/h average ROP.
