TuffTRAC iX Tractors Convey Selective Perforating Guns in Two >13,000-ft Runs in Complicated Well, Qatar

SLB worked with Field Offshore Oil Company, which needed to perforate nine intervals in a twisted horizontal well offshore Qatar after five failed attempts with conventional conveyance methods. The well’s long, slim profile, multiple tubing sizes, and complex crossover section had caused misruns, tractor failures, and even a cut cable incident.

SLB used eight-drive TuffTRAC iX wireline tractors with 16 wheels to convey selective perforating guns more than 13,000 ft through the restrictive wellbore and across the crossover. The tractors successfully navigated the difficult section and enabled two perforating runs to fire all nine intervals, completing the job in 4.5 days from rig-up to pack-up.
