The MAGNOSTAR Magnet Tool Demonstrates Its Effectiveness in Removing Milled Solids from the Wellbore, Prior to Sidetracking Operations

SLB helped Alaska Operating Company address metallic debris left after milling a window in 9 5/8 in. casing at 5,063 ft in Alaska ahead of sidetracking operations. The operator needed a way to clean the wellbore safely and thoroughly before moving to the next phase of drilling.

SLB used the MAGNOSTAR magnetic tool in a series of specially designed BHAs to capture and remove debris during BOP cleaning and main clean-up runs. The solution recovered 17 lb of metallic debris during the BOP cleaning runs and another 120 lb during the main clean-up, reducing the risk of future downhole issues and showing the tool’s effectiveness in clearing the wellbore.
