Talos Energy Proves Zama Field Connectivity with Fluid Samples Obtained via Controlled Low-Pressure Drawdown

Talos Energy needed a way to assess reservoir connectivity in the complex Zama Field in the Gulf of Mexico, where stacked turbiditic sands were loosely consolidated and conventional sampling could not reliably capture representative fluids. SLB supported the appraisal program with the Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform for downhole fluid analysis and sampling.

Using SLB’s Ora platform, Talos Energy collected more than 30 high-purity fluid samples across multiple depths with controlled low-pressure drawdown, helping prevent sanding and enabling real-time fluid characterization. The results confirmed reservoir continuity and lateral connectivity in the stacked sands, with station times of just 1 to 2 hours and fluid cleanup to near zero contamination in less than an hour.
