A SLB Case Study
Talos Energy worked with SLB to reduce uncertainty about cross-fault reservoir connectivity in the Gulf of Mexico, where only low-resolution seismic data was available for the downthrown block. The company needed to determine whether reserves across the main productive reservoir and adjacent block were connected and support completion decisions in a challenging well with up to 53° deviation.
SLB deployed its Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform to acquire and analyze reservoir fluid in real time. Using the platform’s intelligent planning, dual-flowline probe, and contextual insights dashboard, Talos confirmed the fault was not sealing, identified a common hydrocarbon column between wells 800 m apart, and avoided the need for a commingle permit. The operation achieved less than 2 hours of cleanup per station, with subsequent lab analysis confirming less than 1% contamination, while the lighter and shorter tool enabled successful conveyance and high-quality data acquisition.
