Successful Casing Drilling and Multistage Cementing Technology Trial

SLB worked with a leading casing drilling service provider in the Middle East that needed to drill through a troublesome formation, isolate water-sensitive shale, and shut off lost circulation zones while reducing NPT and the risks of conventional casing runs. The project used casing drilling services and the Direct XCD casing bit as part of a trial to reach about 2,490 ft TVD.

SLB implemented an integrated BHA with a diverter valve tool, packer, multistage inflation packer collar, and the Direct XCD drillable alloy casing bit. The operation isolated the shale and eliminated losses without incident, with no safety issues, vibration, or borehole instability, and saved 7 hours versus plan. Average ROP was 58 ft/h, penetration breaks reached 140 ft/h, and the casing was successfully pressure tested.
