StingBlade Bits Save More Than 5 Days in the Browse Basin Offshore Australia

SLB worked with Australia Operating Company, which needed to drill a 12¼-in vertical section in the Browse Basin offshore Australia through hard limestone and chert formations that were damaging conventional PDC bits, reducing footage and slowing rate of penetration.

SLB recommended StingBlade conical diamond element bits and used the IDEAS integrated drillbit design platform to optimize element placement for durability and sustained ROP. The first bit drilled 1,516 m at 11 m/h, delivering 97% more footage and 57% higher ROP than the best offset run, and the second bit drilled the remaining section at 16 m/h, helping save more than 5 days of drilling time.
