StingBlade and AxeBlade Bits Eliminate Three Runs, Saving 4.1 Drilling Days and USD 45,700, Onshore Russia

SLB worked with a Russia based operating company drilling an S-shaped well in the Garshinksoe field in onshore Russia. The customer faced a hard, interbedded limestone and dolomite formation with abrasive chert and sandstone that was causing premature bit damage, multiple bit runs, and lower drilling efficiency, and wanted to maintain penetration rates while reducing runs.

SLB recommended using its StingBlade and AxeBlade bits, supported by offset analysis and the DBOS drillbit optimization system, to improve impact resistance, steerability, and cutting structure durability. The operator drilled the section in two runs instead of five to six, saved 4.1 drilling days, achieved an average ROP of 12.7 m/h, and reduced costs by USD 45,700, while also setting a field record for footage drilled from the shoe.
