StethoScope Service Accurately Measures Fluid Gradients, Depletion in Heterogeneous Reservoir

SLB worked with Malaysia Oil and Gas Company, which needed accurate formation pressure measurements in a depleted, highly heterogeneous offshore reservoir to support field development planning. The operator wanted to determine reservoir depletion, maximize recovery of remaining hydrocarbons, minimize water cut, and avoid a separate pressure-measurement run that would add rig time and increase the risk of hole collapse.

SLB used the StethoScope formation pressure-while-drilling service with TOP time-optimized pretests to acquire stabilized real-time pressure data without extra runs. The solution identified fluid gradients and formation depletion across four wells, delivering 78 tests with an average station time of 12 minutes and average pressure test time of 20 minutes, with a 100% seal success rate on 48 tests and 93% on the remaining 30, while saving rig time and improving field development planning.
