Slimhole MWD Service Powers Complex Suite of LWD Services in ConocoPhillips Bakken Well

ConocoPhillips needed to drill a 6-in horizontal lateral in the Bakken shale while collecting a wide suite of real-time logging-while-drilling data for formation evaluation, including wellbore survey, shock and vibration, acoustic, and azimuthal density neutron measurements. SLB supported the project with its DigiScope slimhole MWD service, along with MicroScope, SonicScope, and adnVISION services, to power the bottomhole assembly and enable continuous data acquisition.

SLB implemented a custom slimhole BHA using DigiScope to generate power for the full LWD suite and transmit data during drilling and relogging. The system logged the lateral at 140 ft/h, achieved 12-Hz signal strength, and delivered a 6-bps physical bit rate while providing high-quality real-time and recorded data for drilling control and reservoir evaluation.
