Sichuan Geophysical Company Achieves Record Explosives Production in China Seismic Survey

Sichuan Geophysical Company (SCGC) worked with SLB to complete a high-resolution seismic survey in Sichuan Province, China, under a tight deadline. The project needed to image thin Jurassic tight oil sands and secondary limestone fracture targets, but conventional seismic methods were not delivering the resolution or signal quality required.

SLB implemented the WesternGeco UniQ integrated point-receiver land seismic system for full-azimuth acquisition using 45,000 broadband point-receiver sensors, 1-ms sampling, and a dense grid of shallow shot holes with small dynamite charges. The approach delivered record explosives production of more than 3,000 shot points per day, with average production of 2,015 shots per day, and allowed SCGC to finish on schedule while revealing unprecedented reservoir detail.
